What it is
Pack 60 campouts are family camping weekends. Scouts camp with a parent or guardian, share meals, spend time outdoors, and practice simple outdoor skills with support from pack leaders and other families.
When it usually happens
Pack 60 usually plans two family campouts each year: one in the fall and one in the spring.
The fall campout is usually at Camp Mountaineer in Morgantown. The spring campout is often at another family campground, such as North Bend State Park in West Virginia.
Why scouts enjoy it
Scouts enjoy sleeping outdoors, exploring nature, learning camp skills, spending time with friends, and trying new things with family support.
Camp Mountaineer
Camp Mountaineer is the Mountaineer Area Council camp property in Morgantown, WV. The council describes it as a Scouting camp of more than 1,000 acres that has served Scouts since 1954.
The camp includes campsites, pavilions, a dining hall, lodges, and program areas. Depending on staffing and availability, council program features may include activities such as climbing, COPE, archery, and rifle range programming. Families should use the council’s Camp Mountaineer page for current reservation information, maps, and camp details.
What families should know
Campouts are planned with safety and family participation in mind. New families do not need to be expert campers before joining a Pack 60 campout.
