Scouts wearing helmets as they walk through a tall rock passage at Laurel Caverns

What it was

Pack 60 families explored Laurel Caverns State Park in southwestern Pennsylvania. Wearing helmets, scouts traveled through underground passages and saw the cave’s rock layers, chambers, and unusual formations up close.

Why scouts enjoyed it

Caving turned geology and outdoor skills into a hands-on adventure. Scouts practiced careful movement, stayed with the group, encouraged one another through tighter passages, and experienced an environment very different from an ordinary trail.

What families should know

Cave outings require close supervision, appropriate footwear and clothing, and careful attention to venue guidance. Tour options, availability, age requirements, and current visitor information should be confirmed through the official Laurel Caverns tour website.

Past outings are examples of Pack 60 adventures and do not guarantee that the same trip will be offered every year.
