What it is

Cub Scout Resident Camp is a Mountaineer Area Council summer camp program held at Camp Mountaineer in Morgantown, WV.

The council describes it as a five-day, four-night overnight camp experience for Cub Scouts entering grades 1-5 the following school year. It is a bigger summer camp experience than a Pack 60 family weekend campout, with a council-run program, camp staff, and activities at Camp Mountaineer.

When it usually happens

Resident camp is a summer program. For 2026, Mountaineer Area Council lists Cub Scout Resident Camp for July 15-18, with a Webelos Experience add-on July 18-19.

Families should use the council’s Cub Scout Resident Camp page for current dates, registration, fees, and program guide links.

Why scouts enjoy it

Scouts get a longer camp experience, try camp activities, build confidence away from the usual meeting routine, and spend several days outdoors with other Cub Scouts.

What families should know

Resident camp is coordinated through Mountaineer Area Council rather than planned as a regular Pack 60 campout. Pack leaders can help families understand whether the current year’s resident camp program is a good fit for their scout.

Scouts typically sleep in Adirondacks, which are three-walled cabin-style shelters with bunk beds.

As scouts get older, the council also offers Scouts BSA Resident Camp information for troops.
